Plan Your Visit

What should I expect

on my first visit?

At Second Baptist Church, we are thrilled to have guests visit our service. As soon as you walk through the doors, we believe that you will find a group of people that love God and desire to be a help to people. During the services you can expect to enjoy clear, God-honoring music and practical, biblical preaching.

How should I dress?

There is not a dress code at Second Baptist Church, but we never apologize for encouraging people to "dress their best" for church. You will find people here from all walks of life and backgrounds who feel very much at home here at Second Baptist Church.

Am I expected to give in the offering?

No. We want our service to be a gift to you. We hope you will find in this place a warm family spirit, truth from God's Word, and a place where you can grow in God's grace. Please don't feel any obligation to participate in the offering as a guest.

What religious group are you part of?

Second Baptist Church is not affiliated with, or under the authority of, any denominational organization. Instead, the Bible is our sole and final authority for all of our decisions regarding belief and practice. In other words, we are a Baptist church that is independent in our authority and fundamental in our doctrine.

What about my kids?

Starting with preschool childcare that is provided in our nurseries, there is a special place for every child. At every service there are safe, clean, and staffed nurseries for children three year old and under. For children four years old through sixth grade there are fun, friendly, and Bible-centered classes. These classes are taught by trained, friendly, and well-qualified teachers and helpers who will make church exciting and memorable for your child. Our greeters and ushers are located around the building and will gladly help direct and even escort you to the appropriate places.

What about my teens?

Our teen ministry is broken down into two separate divisions: youth boys and youth girls. Teens attend their appropriate Bible class on Sunday mornings and then the worship service with their friends or family. Wednesday evenings also provided for an opportunity for the youth group to grow together and be challenged from the Word of God.

Any other questions?

If there's something we missed, just text or call us at (580) 765-3449. You can also ask someone when you arrive. Whether you're new to Ponca City and looking for a church home, or if it's been a long time since you've attended church at all, we hope your first visit at Second Baptist Church will be great! We are in Ponca City to serve you and your family, and we are looking forward to meeting you personally. We hope you'll feel right at home from the very first moment you step onto our church! Salvation

You can know for sure that you are on your way to heaven

There are big questions that haunt all of us. What happens when I die? Where will I spend eternity? The single most important question that you will ever answer is this: “If I were to die today, would I spend eternity in Heaven with God?” Your relationship to Jesus Christ is central to the answer to that question.

The Bible tells us in I John 5:13, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life...

The simple truth is God wants you to know where you're going! So, here it is in a nutshell:

First, realize that God has a requirement for Heaven

"And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of Life." - Revelation 21:27

Second, consider your condition

Romans 3:23 - “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Third, understand God’s provision

Romans 6:23 - “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Fourth, respond to God’s love

John 3:16 - “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Finally, remember God’s guarantee

John 5:24 - “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

If you have trusted Jesus as your Savior, or if there is some other way we can help you, please let us know. We would be glad for you to join us as our guest in an upcoming service.

Ministries

Babies having fun in daycare

Nursery | Newborn - 3 years

We believe that each child is special and unique, and part of God’s heritage. Therefore our children’s teaching staff understands the responsibility you have entrusted them with in helping you prepare your children for the next generation. We are blessed and honored to have the privilege of imparting God’s truths into your children’s lives that they in turn will impact other lives for Christ.

Our loving and capable nursery caregivers always provide a clean and safe environment for the babies in their care. Preschool childcare is provided during every Sunday and Wednesday service. Being able to trust our nursery department allows parents to attend classes and services free of distractions while knowing that their little ones are receiving the best care!

Our teachers make class time fun and exciting as they guide children in understanding Bible stories as well as biblical principles like missions, giving, and the importance of following God.

During our Sunday morning service, kids enjoy our Children's Church - a dynamic kids service with music, Bible stories, character lessons, and fun games. Your children will be excited to tell you about the time they spend in class each week!

Teen Photo

Teens | 6th - 12th Grade

The youth ministry at Second Baptist is an exciting and important part of our church. Your teenagers will find a place to belong in our youth group and will be ministered to and nurtured by our youth leaders.

We are enthusiastic about ministering to teens and encouraging them in spiritual growth and a godly vision for their future. We know that by equipping teens to live for Jesus today, we can help them make right decisions for the future with God's plan for their lives in mind.

Each year, our teens enjoy a variety of lively activities and camps. From a week at Oklahoma Baptist Youth Camp in the summer to various youth rallies throughout the year, there are plenty of opportunities for our teens to learn God's truths while growing friendships and making special memories.

Teens are also encouraged to begin serving and ministering to others by participating in children's ministries, outreach, giving, and music. The Bible teaching and preaching within the youth ministry at Second Baptist provides our teens with the knowledge, challenges, and encouragement they need to grow in spiritual responsiveness and personal effort.

Beliefs

The following summarizes what we believe as a church family.

We believe the Bible and teach it to be perfectly true.

The Bible

We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the verbally and plenarily inspired Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible and God-breathed and, therefore, are the final authority for faith and life. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament are the complete and divine revelation of God to Man. The Scriptures shall be interpreted according to their normal grammatical-historical meaning, and all issues of interpretation and meaning shall be determined by the pastor. The King James Version of the Bible shall be the official and only translation used by the church. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)

God

We believe in one triune God, eternally existing in three persons— Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—each co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, coequal in power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 8:19; John 14:10, 26; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

The Person and Work of Christ

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man, without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful men.

(Isaiah 7:14, 9:6; Luke 1:35; John 1:1-2, 14; 2 Corinthians 5:19-21; Galatians 4:4-5; Philippians 2:5-8)

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice; and, that our justification is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead. (Acts 2:18-36; Romans 3:24-25; Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:3-5, 2:24)

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate. (Acts 1:9-10; Romans 8:34; Hebrews 9:24, 7:25; 1 John 2:1-2)

The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgement; and, that He is the Supernatural Agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption.

(John 16:8-11; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; 2 Corinthians 3:6; Ephesians 1:13-14)

We believe that He is the divine Teacher who assists believers to understand and appropriate the Scriptures and that it is the privilege and duty of all the saved to be filled with the Spirit.

(Ephesians 1:17-18, 5:18; 1 John 2:20, 27)

We believe that God is sovereign in the bestowal of spiritual gifts to every believer. God uniquely uses evangelists, pastors, and teachers to equip believers in the assembly in order that they can do the work of the ministry. (Romans 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, 28; Ephesians 4:7-12)

We believe that the sign gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as speaking in tongues and the gift of healing were temporary. Speaking in tongues was never the common or necessary sign of the baptism or filling of the Holy Spirit. Ultimate deliverance of the body from sickness or death awaits the consummation of our salvation in the resurrection, though God frequently chooses to answer the prayers of believers for physical healing.

(1 Corinthians 1:22, 13:8, 14:21-22)

Sin and Salvation

We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God; but that in Adam’s sin the human race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God. Man is totally depraved and, of himself, utterly unable to remedy his lost condition. (Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:22-23, 5:12; 6:23; Ephesians 2:1-3; 4:17-19)

We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, Whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of sin. We believe that all sin, except blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, is forgivable. (Matthew 12:31-32; John 1:12; Ephesians 1:7; 2:8-10; 1 Peter 1:18-19; 1 John 1:9)

The Eternal Security and Assurance of Believers

We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever. (John 6:37-40, 10:27-30; Romans 8:1, 38-39; 1 Corinthians 1:4-8; 1 Peter 1:4-5)

We believe that it is the privilege of believers to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation through the testimony of God’s Word, which, however, clearly forbids the use of Christian liberty as an occasion to the flesh. (Romans 13:13-14; Galatians 5:13; Titus 2:11-15)

Church

We believe that the local church, which is the body and the espoused bride of Christ, is solely made up of born-again persons. (1 Corinthians 12:12-14; 2 Corinthians 11:2; Ephesians 1:22-23, 5:25-27)

We believe that the establishment and continuance of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures. (Acts 14:27, 20:17, 28-32; 1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-11)

We believe in the autonomy of the local church free of any external authority or control. (Acts 13:1-4, 15:19-31, 20:28; Romans 16:1, 4; 1 Corinthians 3:9, 16; 5:4-7, 13; 1 Peter 5:1-4)

We recognize water baptism by emersion and the Lord’s Supper as the Scriptural ordinances of obedience for the church in this age. (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:41-42, 8:36-38; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)

The Second Coming of Christ

We believe in that blessed hope, the personal, imminent return of Christ, Who will rapture His church prior to the seven-year tribulation period. At the end of the Tribulation, Christ will personally and visibly return with His saints, to establish His earthly Messianic Kingdom which was promised to the nation of Israel.

(Psalm 89:3-4; Daniel 2:31-45; Zechariah 14:4-11; 1 Thessalonians 1:10, 4:13-18; Titus 2:13; Revelation 3:10, 19:11-16, 20:1-6)
